Drumming
-
Before I became a producer & engineer, I was a performing drummer. I initially moved to New York to play gigs, tour, and record - this is exaclty what I did for a number of years before transitioning to full time studio work. Drumming and groove is the cornerstone of how I hear music.
-
I now play the drums with the mindset of a producer - my goal on the kit is to get a great sound, to groove hard, to make the song feel good, and to shape the arrangement in the most musical way. I love a simple and creative drum part that sits in the pocket.
-
I love to engineer my own drum sessions - it allows me to craft a customized drum sound for the project I’m working on. I’m meticulous about drum selection, tuning, and the treatment of the kit. I’m very particular in selecting the correct microphones to achieve the proper tone and depth for a song.
-
I also love to program drums - this allows me to choose from an infinite array of drum samples. Programming allows me to create rhythms and textures that are not limited by what I can physically play on the drums, the only limitation is my imagination.
